Founding Mission

 The Yonsei Center for Human Liberty (YCHL) was established in February 2014 as aspecial research wing of the Graduate School of International Studies' Institute for Modern Korean Studies. On the eve of the release of the report by the UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in north Korea, YCHL was established to.






Pursuant to the founding Christian goals of Yonsei University, YCHL upholds the conviction that "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights" as stpulated in Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. YCHL uniquely combines Yonsei's commitment to serious research on the one hand, and civic society's passion and zeal on the other. In doing so, YCHL has established an active institutional neetwork with research think tanks, NGOs, and inter-governmental agencies both at home and abroad .


  Key Mission

1)  Promote human rights as universal value;
2)  Carry the momentum created by the COI report;
3)  Calibrate scattered measures i dealing with the North Korean regime;
4)  Increase the international awareness of the human rights condition
                            in North Korea;
5)  Devise systematic strategy ot bring about an actual change in North Korea;
6)  Research UN's judicial mechanism, accountability, and transitional justice
